Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor on International Affairs to the Supreme Leader, says Iran can take advantage of nuclear power without being sanctioned by the United States and European Union. He believes that Islamic Republic can handle the related issues if it applies correct diplomacy in its direct talks with world powers.

“Currently Iran is among the leading countries in nuclear fields. We must work hard to keep the high level of our knowledge and technology in the relative sciences. Producing nuclear power is the right of Iranian nation, and we are able to take advantage of this right if we apply correct diplomacies in our nuclear case.”  Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters in a press-conference.

Iran and P5+1 group have negotiated over Islamic Republic’s nuclear case several times, but no success had been achieved during the recent ten years.

Regarding the current situation of Iran in the Middle East issues, Velayati said: “At this moment, Iran has lost its influential position in the region. Now Iran is not the final decider of regional developments, and this is the main drawback of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s foreign diplomacy. I believe this situation can be changed in future.”

“Economic problems of the country have been increased significantly in the recent years. We can take advantage of current human force and talented workers in order to advance the level of our economy. However, this needs a national unity.” Ali Akbar Velayati remarked about Iran’s economy.

Ali Akbar Velayati is an Iranian politician, academic and diplomat. He was the foreign minister of Iran from 1981 to 1997.
