Meisam Emroodi, Deputy Mayor of Tehran Municipality, revealed that Tehran officials are looking to turn Evin prison into a park for Tehran citizens. The prison is located in one of the best places of Tehran and it hosts political prisoners. Hundreds of violators are currently jailed in this prison.
“Tehran is one of the largest cities in Asia and it has more than 4,000 small and big parks. By increasing the number of general parks we can turn Tehran into a great resort hub for tourists and those who admire Iranian cultures. To achieve this goal we have talked and held several sessions with the authorities of Evin prison. We are going to build a park in that region in near future.” Meisam Emroodi said on Tuesday.
Emroodi didn’t dig up more details on this subject. A few months ago Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Tehran Mayor, had announced the story. Accordingly Tehran Municipality has reached agreements with Iran’s interior ministry. As it seems the negotiations will be finalized soon and Tehranis will have another big park in their city.
Evin prison was built in Shah reign in the north of Tehran. After Islamic Revolution on 1979, Iranians saved this prison and restructured it. Nasrin Sotoude, Mostafa Tajzadeh, Mohsen Mir Damadi, Saeed Madani and Abdollah Moemeni are famous public figures who are currently jailed in this prison.
