Mehdi Rahmati Talks about his Conditions in Esteghlal FC

Mehdi Rahmati, the goalkeeper of Esteghlal FC, denies reports linking him with other Iranian clubs. In recent days, local sports publications have posted reports about Rahmati suggesting that he will leave the Tehran-based club at the end of season.

“I personally cannot believe such rumors. Iran Pro League has not been finished yet, but journalists talk about my future offers. I have not ever negotiated with the officials of other clubs in this regard. In fact, I have not received any single offer from Iranian clubs about the next season. So these kinds of rumors are completely baseless.” Mehdi Rahmati said.

Rahmati has submitted 25 clean-sheets in his 40 appearances for Esteghlal FC in this season. “To be honest, this was the best season of my career in Iran. This record has been submitted for the whole squad, not only me. Unfortunately this success has not been highlighted in Iranian media because they are always looking for my weak points rather than fair criticism.”

“Defeating Al-Ain in Emirates is our top goal. The next three matches in AFC Champions League are very important for us. So we will try hard to keep our fans satisfied of results. I urge Iranians to pray for us.” Mehdi Rahmati concluded. Esteghlal had qualified for the knock-out phase of AFC Champions League.

Rahmati, 30, is one of the most talented goalkeepers in Asia. He started his youth career in Pas Tehran academy. Many analysts compare his performance with Nasser Hejazi, Iranian legendary goalkeeper. Mehdi Rahmati is named as the best Iranian goalkeeper in recent decade.
