The AMAs took place on the 24th of November in Los Angeles, California and was the talk of the town.
Crowds gathered at the Nokia Theatre L.A Live for a show packed with performances.
The award ceremony is an annual celebration of the most popular musicians and musical works of the year.
This year’s nominations were announced a month in advance by American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson and singer will.i.am and the show was hosted by popular rapper, Pitbull.
Performances
A number of musicians put on a show for their fans at the award ceremony. The most talked about however, is not surprisingly, Miley Cyrus.
Cyrus sang her hit single ‘Wrecking Ball’ accompanied by a crying kitten. As she sang in her two piece cat ensemble, strange visuals played in the background featuring a very emotional little cat.
Another talked about performance was by Lady Gaga and R. Kelly who sang their new single, “Do What U Want”, while putting on a little theatrical show. The performance revolved around “President Kelly” and his secretary “Gaga” in a scandalous White House affair. This was quite likely inspired by the real affairs of Former presidents such as JFK and Bill Clinton.
Katy Perry, who opened the show, took to the stage and sang her new single “Unconditional”. An elaborate show was designed around a Japanese theme and Miss Perry belted out high notes in a kimono. Thousands of cherry blossom petals rained down on her while she sang her emotional tune and kick started the award ceremony.
Winners
Taylor Swift, a young country singer, was the winner of 4 awards this year. She was the recipient of ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Best pop/rock female artist’, ‘Best country female artist’ and ‘Best country album of the year’.
